Green Element
How green is your AGA?
An AGA is very environmentally friendly and for a number of reasons.
Firstly, AGAs are renowned for dependability and longevity. AGAs do not end up in landfill sites. Your AGA will work for you for a lifetime and possibly for generations.
AGAs have been green right from the beginning. Since the very first model was made more than 80 years ago, 70% of each AGA has been made from previously used materials. Car gearboxes, old machinery, lampposts and much more can all be found in an AGA.
An AGA in your kitchen means you can reduce the number of small appliances you may have previously needed. An AGA takes the place of a toaster, a sandwich maker, an electric kettle, a bread maker, a coffeemaker and a microwave oven. You save the cost of the appliance, the cost of replacing it and you save on the energy needed to operate it. No greenhouse gas emissions needed for the raw materials, production or transportation.
AGA ambient heat is comforting and smart. AGA owners say it makes the kitchen the heart of their home. An AGA will also reduce your annual heating bills. An AGA with an integrated module attached might be a great option for those of us who like to turn off the heat storage part of the cooker on warm summer days, it also offers additional capacity and cooking versatility during the year.
AGA engineers continue to develop improved heat storage and energy use. In North America you can choose between gas and electric fired models, however AGA is working on micro generation projects involving storing energy for later use. This can involve batteries, hot water systems or resale of electricity back to the Grid. The AGA may become a significant green alternative-because it is a kind of “heat battery”. The design utilizes a small heat source and the tremendous heat storage capability of cast iron to effectively store heat and energy. The stored energy will be available on demand.
We will keep you posted on the progress of AGA green initiatives.
